it shows the truth and that they were not beaten by israel. the fact that they were able to fire rockets into israel even after absorbing 1500 air strikes to them is a success. their bar for success is much lower than israel's bar for success but they believe in their success and that complicates issues not only vis-a-vis israel but internally with the west bank. hamas has shown that it doesn't pay and violence does. >> martin, do leaders want a two state solution or do they refuse to recognize israel's right to exist? >> it's a no and a yes. they do not recognize the right to exist. it's in the hamas charter. it's founded on the belief that israel has no right to exist. that complicates any future peace negotiations and so, be yes, tla complicates it. and it means that hamas will never recognize israel's right to exist. it's possible that they can come to a long-term agreement which allows them to live quietly side by side. that would be the maximum that could come out of these negotiations. >> talk about a stumbling block right out of the st
